CTZ Hops (Columbus, Tomahawk, Zeus) This American high alpha acid variety has a pungent aroma of citrus, wood and spice and leaves a clean bitter flavor. It is an excellent choice for bitter ales and American IPA’s. CTZ hops are an ideal dual-purpose hop due to it’s assertive, clean bitterness and it’s pleasingly intense aroma. It is often identified by other names such as CTZ which stands for Columbus, Tomahawk and Zeus. The Tomahawk variety is genetically the same and the Zeus variety is so similar that they are generally regarded as the same for practical purposes. The naming confusion is a result of copyright and patent issues encountered by those who developed this hop variety.
